Adult Sunday School at Green Camp United Methodist Church offers an opportunity to explore Scripture, ask meaningful questions, and discover how biblical truths can strengthen our faith in everyday life. Through shared study and open discussion, we encourage one another to grow closer to God and apply His Word to the situations we face.

On Sunday, October 25, our lesson, Prayer Still Works, will focus on Acts 1–21. These chapters tell the story of the early Church as the followers of Jesus carried the Gospel into new places, faced opposition, and learned to depend on the Holy Spirit. Throughout their journey, prayer was a vital part of their life together and their response to the challenges before them.

At the beginning of Acts, Jesus' followers gathered together and devoted themselves to prayer as they waited for the promised Holy Spirit. After the Spirit came at Pentecost, the Church began to grow, and the apostles continued proclaiming the message of Jesus. Their work was not always easy. They encountered resistance, persecution, difficult decisions, and uncertainty, yet they continued to seek God's direction and rely on His strength.

As the Church grew, prayer remained central to the believers' response to both ordinary needs and extraordinary circumstances. They prayed for boldness when threatened, sought God's guidance in ministry, and turned to Him during moments of danger and hardship. Their example shows us that prayer is not reserved for emergencies or moments when we have exhausted every other option. Prayer belongs at the center of our relationship with God, shaping how we make decisions, respond to difficulties, and serve others.

The title Prayer Still Works invites us to examine our own prayer lives. It can be easy to become discouraged when answers do not come as quickly as we hope, when circumstances seem unchanged, or when we struggle to find the right words. Sometimes we may even wonder whether our prayers are making a difference. The book of Acts reminds us that prayer is an expression of trust in God, even when we cannot see the whole picture. Prayer does not mean we can control every outcome, but it does mean we can bring our concerns, needs, hopes, and decisions before the One who knows us completely.

This lesson also challenges us to consider whether prayer is our first response or our last resort. Do we seek God's wisdom before making important decisions? Do we pray for courage when doing what is right becomes difficult? Do we remember to pray for others as faithfully as we pray about our own needs? The early Church's example encourages us to build a consistent life of prayer—not only in times of crisis, but also in moments of gratitude, service, fellowship, and discernment.

Prayer Still Works is a reminder that the same God who guided and strengthened the early Church is still worthy of our trust today. As we study Acts 1–21, we will reflect on the importance of prayer, the power of depending on God, and the ways prayer can shape our faith and our response to His calling. Whatever season of life we find ourselves in, we can continue to pray with confidence, knowing that God hears us and invites us into relationship with Him.

Adult Sunday School meets every Sunday at 9:30 AM, followed by worship at 10:30 AM. We invite you to join us as we study God's Word, learn from the early Church, and encourage one another to keep prayer at the heart of our walk with Christ.
