Making a Commitment to a Church - October 18, 2026

📖 Scriptures: 2 Corinthians 8:1-15
🎙 Message: Making A Commitment to a Church – Rev. Romy Velasco
On this Stewardship Sunday, we turn our attention to the foundational principles of generosity and community covenant found in 2 Corinthians 8. Writing to the believers in Corinth, the Apostle Paul holds up the churches of Macedonia as a powerful example. Despite experiencing severe trials and extreme poverty, their abundance of joy overflowed into rich generosity, demonstrating that biblical giving is rooted in spiritual dedication rather than material wealth.
Rev. Romy Velasco explores what it means to make a meaningful commitment to the local church body. Paul highlights that the Macedonian believers first gave themselves to the Lord, and then to the church in keeping with God's will. True stewardship goes far beyond financial contributions; it begins with an intentional surrender of our hearts, talents, and lives to Christ’s ongoing work in our community.
This message invites us to reflect on Christ’s ultimate example of grace—though He was rich, for our sakes He became poor so that through His poverty we might become rich. When we view our resources and involvement through the lens of the gospel, supporting our church becomes an act of joyful worship and equality rather than a burdensome duty.
We warmly invite you to join us this Sunday as we gather to celebrate God’s faithfulness and commit our lives fresh to His service. Come connect with a compassionate community, lift your heart in praise, and discern how God is calling you to participate in the ministry of Green Camp UMC.
