Sunday School Preview: October 4 – I’m Not Worthy, But I’ll Go

Adult Sunday School at Green Camp United Methodist Church is a place to slow down, study Scripture, and consider how God’s Word speaks to the circumstances we encounter in our own lives. Through thoughtful discussion and shared reflection, we have the opportunity to grow in our understanding of Scripture while encouraging one another in faith.

On Sunday, October 4, our lesson, I’m Not Worthy, But I’ll Go, will take us through Isaiah 1–24. These chapters introduce us to the prophetic ministry of Isaiah and contain strong messages about sin, judgment, repentance, God's holiness, and the hope found in trusting Him.

Isaiah's message begins with a difficult but important truth: God's people had turned away from Him. Isaiah confronted injustice, disobedience, empty religious practices, and a failure to live according to God's commands. His words remind us that simply participating in religious activities is not enough when our hearts and actions are moving in another direction. God desires genuine repentance and a life that reflects His character.

Yet Isaiah's message is not only about judgment. Throughout these chapters, we also see God's continued invitation to return to Him. Even when people have fallen short, God remains faithful. The contrast between human failure and God's holiness can make us aware of our own unworthiness, but it can also point us toward God's grace and mercy.

The theme I’m Not Worthy, But I’ll Go invites us to consider how we respond when God calls us to something that feels beyond our abilities. It is easy to focus on our shortcomings, past mistakes, limitations, or feelings of inadequacy. We may wonder whether we have enough knowledge, enough faith, or enough strength to be useful to God. Isaiah reminds us that our calling does not begin with our own perfection. It begins with God's authority and His purpose.

As we study Isaiah 1–24, we will reflect on the difference between feeling unworthy and being unwilling. Recognizing our limitations can lead us toward humility, but it does not have to keep us from obedience. God has repeatedly worked through people who understood that they were dependent upon Him. The question is not whether we have everything figured out, but whether we are willing to trust God enough to follow where He leads.

I’m Not Worthy, But I’ll Go challenges us to examine our own response to God's calling. Where might fear or feelings of inadequacy be holding us back? What would it look like to trust God with the areas where we feel least prepared? And how might our willingness to say “yes” become an opportunity for God to work through us?

Adult Sunday School meets every Sunday at 9:30 AM, followed by worship at 10:30 AM. We invite you to join us as we continue studying God's Word, asking honest questions, and discovering how Scripture challenges and encourages us in our walk of faith.
