🎙 Message: The Fourth of July Idea – Rev. Romy Velasco

Independence Day is a time of gratitude for the civil liberties and freedoms we enjoy as a nation. However, as believers, we are also called to contemplate a deeper concept of liberty. In his letter to the Galatians, the Apostle Paul issues a powerful reminder that Christ has set us free from the spiritual bondage of sin and fear. This freedom is not a license to do whatever we please, but an open door to live according to God's higher calling.

Rev. Romy Velasco connects this New Testament freedom with the comforting promise of Isaiah, where God tells His people not to fear because He is with them. True freedom allows us to break away from anxiety and insecurity, knowing we are upheld by a righteous hand. When our hearts are liberated from fear, we become free to look outward and genuinely serve the people around us.

The practical application of this "Fourth of July Idea" is found in doing good to all people and walking in Christlike love. As recorded in Galatians and 1 John, our spiritual independence should lead to a beautiful dependence on love, since love comes from God. A free heart is a loving heart, and a healthy church community is the perfect environment to put that love into motion.

We warmly welcome you to join us this Sunday as we gather to worship, pray for our community, and reflect on the true meaning of liberty. Whether you are returning home for the holiday weekend or looking for a place to connect, there is a seat saved for you at Green Camp UMC.
